An evening at the Kaanapali Beach Black Rock

A beautiful sunset over Kaanapali beach, Maui

Someone told me there are cliff-jumpers as the sun goes down over the Black Rock on Kaanapali Beach near Lahaina. That was not to be missed.

So there we were, on the beach of Maui Sheraton as it was getting dark to watch the cliff jumpers. On the way, we passed by a Luau being performed near the beach. It was nice, kinda.

The interesting part of the time spent at the beach was seeing some wedding photography in action. The bride was definitely having a hard time with a third of her flowing wedding gown all wet with sea water. It was all serious stuff for the couple in question, I suppose. But they ended up providing a lot of comic relief for the onlookers.

The sun was setting in the meanwhile. We watched as a Hawaiian man ran with a lighted torch along the sea shore, lit up the tiki lamps, reached the top of the Black Rock and jumped into the ocean to eventually swim back to the shore.

End of a great day.

About

Life is how you see it. A long time ago, when I used to look at life through my eyes wide open, I saw it all at the same time. The order, and the clutter. The good, the bad, and the ugly.

Something changed over the last few years as I have started looking through the constraining frame of a camera viewfinder. The world is suddenly a different place. I am beginning to see things I didn’t know existed. I am able to find beauty in strange things.

I live in beautiful California. I have learned to combine the other things I enjoy most, visiting places and hiking, to photography. So I am very rarely outdoors without a camera.

There so much to see in this world.

Lets look at it together.
